Today we'll be looking at the Aldiko e-book reader app for Android on our generic 7-inch, Android 1.5, RK2808 MID. Let's get reading.

The Skinny

Aldiko is an e-book reader app for Android, its default package coming preloaded with two books: Sun Tzu's Art of War and H. G. Wells' The Invisible Man, arguably two classics and both classics for entirely different reasons. But to refrain from delving into my thoughts on the two preloaded books, we'll look at Aldiko's ability to download books from databases such as Feedbooks where there are thousands upon thousands of public domain as well as free self-published e-books, so quality will wildly vary.

  • Thanks! I couldn't figure out how to open the book! You review helped me a lot.

  • This cam make bookmark ?

  • @redlightmax you're welcome :)

you could of course send your suggestions (maybe a little less aggressive and a little more detailed ;) ) to the makers of fbreader... judging by the look of the program (more about depth than flash), i bet chances for them to listen is higher than for the aldiko guys to do that.

  • @notthere83 I downloaded FBReader - I like how you can add bookmarks, but its dashboard is shit. I'll stick with Aldiko's white-on-black (and its sweet shelf view dashboard) for now. Thanks for the rec, hopefully we'll get an app that will combine the best of both worlds.

  • Look his fingers, really, really fucked up.

  • amazin app

  • The support of PDF is REALLY REALLY POOR!!!

  • @4RedDwarf3 with aldiko you can also lower the brightness settings without having to leave the book. I dont think he showed this but the left side of the screen controls the brightness settings so all you have to do is slide your finger up and down along the sides. This coupled with the day night modes is awesome

  • Your first review was great and best review.Hatts off man.I have a doubt i have most books scanned as pdf because i have it in Arabic language .Some of them are in pdf format but not scanned type.Do you get that difference. In scanned document fonts type and size cant be changed. Will this reader support day night mode zoom in and zoom out in pdf reader.

  • White text on black background... ugh, thank god you can change that, thats like looking at a lighbulb then looking at a blank wall, leaves an after-image like a photo negative... bothers my eyes a lot.

Nice in depth review, looks like a good app that i will try once i get an android... een though i do have a kindle that is very easy on the eyes, hopefully you can make this background grey too like a real page.
