I agree, this is a really good idea. If you can separate the trick from the treat more, it opens the door for many more tricks -- your bird will understand that it gets the treat for the trick. You could take this concept one step further, too -- have your bird open the container when it is empty, and then GIVE him the treat.

Be careful with that, you might be making a "monster". It knows the treat box now and you might end up with some problems - like your bird will go nuts when it sees that box and will be so focused on it that it won't respond to anything once it's seen it. It's a cool trick, but if you keep it up I would just use one treat inside it and keep the rest in another container. : )
