Some of John Petrucci's best guitar solos in Liquid Tension Experiment I & II, back in 1998 & 1999.

This instrumental progressive rock / metal band was formed at the end of the 20th century by Mike Portnoy who was asked by Magna Carta Records to put together a group of musicians he wanted to work with on a solo project of his own.
His choices fell on Tony Levin (bass), Jordan Rudess (keyboards) and John Petrucci (guitar).

The video features live footage and pictures from that time as well as John Petrucci's contemporary photographs with members from Liquid Tension Experiment and some shots of their reunion in 2008 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the project.

Once again, this is not a top... I don't like to call it that way because in my opinion the hardest thing to do in art is to rate one piece above another one or below when the level of quality among them is so high and similar (and to name something as "the best" is impossible). One's taste can vary considerably and no opinion is universal when judging art.
This is just a group of what I consider to be his best guitar solos in the aforementioned project.

1. Paradigm Shift (LTE 1)
2. Kindred Spirits (LTE 1)
3. Freedom of Speech (LTE 1)
4. Universal Mind (LTE 1)
5. Another Dimension (LTE 2)
6. When the water breaks (LTE 2)
7. Biaxident (LTE 2)

I hope that everybody who doesn't know these exceptional musicians can get to know their work a litte better and hopefully admire the creativity of this amazing guitar player.
That's the main goal of this video.

Enjoy!

  • Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic.... but when I saw that photo at 1:20 with Mike and John I about burst into tears. Damn I hope they get back together. But if they don't, they made 25 years worth of music that will always be in my heart. I hope the spirit carries on. A7X is a good band and I don't dislike them for their popularity but DT is an incredible band that has always been ignored and always had to appeal to the most passionate musical minds to establish the reputability they have.

  • john petrucci is probably the best guitarist of all time...

  • @MichaelsPortraits

its not about his feeling. hes not a blues player or does much music that is based on making the guitar sing or cry. its about how he arranges notes. and if u like metal, u will discover that its fucking epic what he does.

listen to 0:44-0:50 in this video. noone sounds like that.

  • @gerakgios your comment is a year old, but I would have to agree.

  • @gerakgios You are kidding right , Petrucci is an average player at best! and that is being generous because lets face it ...theres no soul or emotion in his playing ....its all generic minor scales played as fast as possible! I see 13 yr old kids at guitar center in front of shitty line 6 solid state amps playing his licks all the time , sometimes even faster!......Big Fucking deal

  • @sajidezaz1 Buy the album obviously.
