Gemini Health Care Group's Fourth Annual Fundraiser Gala was held at the Sheraton National Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia on Saturday September 24th, 2011. The Gala was a tremendous success, with over three hundred people from across the United States graced us with their presence.

Dr. Aziza Shad, the Director of Pediatric Oncology at Georgetown University, set the tone for the evening as the key note speaker, with an informative, eloquent and heartfelt presentation on the state of childhood cancer in Ethiopia. Dr. Shad is hopeful about the commencement of the pediatric cancer treatment, and training program by January 2012 at Black Lion hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia through the collaboration of Georgetown University Department of Pediatrics and INCTR (International Cancer Treatment and Research), a non-profit organization which provides vitally needed cancer treatment, education and research for developing countries.

The evening's other speaker, Dr. Ebba K. Ebba , Founder and President of the Gemini Health Care Group, shared the organization's progress and activities over the past two years. At the end of this presentation, he unveiled an ambitious membership drive, entitled "20 by 10", whereby, the organization will be recruiting members to donate $20 per month for a year, and invite 10 of their friends to join them. With a concerted grass-root effort, the organization plans to recruit 1,000 supporters over the next 6 to 12 months. Gemini strongly believes that such a broad based support is vital to sustaining its various activities and commitments. Prospective members were encouraged to sign up for this initiative through Gemini's website www.ghcg.org.

The Organization also honored the 2011 outstanding individuals who have made tremendous contributions in the areas of education, research, public health and community service nationally and internationally The awardees were: Dr. Aklilu Lemma, Dr. Ahmed Moen, Dr. Tsehaye Teferra, Mary Louise Cohen, Esq., and Dr. Aziza Shad. The honorees and their families were present to receive their awards at the Gala.

Gemini's supporters were very generous with their time, in-kind donations as well as financial contributions, as evidenced by the size of the crowd, level of sponsorship and by their participation at the evening's various activities.

Moreover, organizing an event of such magnitude could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Gemini's volunteers and Board Members. Master auctioneer, Steven Talbot, entertained and engaged the crowd throughout the night. Our musical guests, including Hiruth Girma, Alem Makonnen, and The Mitiku Brothers graciously donated their talents and time for which the organization is very grateful.

There are not enough words to describe our heartfelt appreciation of our volunteers and supporters. On behalf of children of Ethiopia whose lives we are trying to affect positively, we thank you very much.
