The 1996 Melbourne Cup is famously remembered as the 10th victory for trainer Bart Cummings, who trained wonder horse Saintly to an easy victory, from Count Chivas and Skybeau.

  • The 'horse from heaven' crushed the opposition like no other! This is still my all time favourite Melb Cup

  • D.Beadman is one of the greatest Australian jockeys and he will make the aussies proud in Hong Kong. OZ racing misses his talent and his induction into the Hall of Fame is well deserved.

  • And what made this win even better was that this was a pretty hand field of stayers too

  • That was one of the best rides in this race you will see, had him on the fence until the 800 then moved away before the others crowded him. He only had daylight in front of him on the turn and when Beadman said go he annihilated them. I was on Skybeau at 125/1, thought I was a chance at the 350, until i realised that Saintly was so far in front and cruising. But what an awesome athletic horse he was, but sadly another case of what might have been a career cut short again.
