Just a short video showing the process of tapping a fresh thread for use with a helicoil to repair cross-threaded Magura HS33 hydraulic rim brake mounts on my trials bike.
The standard thread for use on this frame was a M5x0.8 thread pitch. The helicoil kit requires you to bore out the old thread, then tap a larger hole. The Helicoil reduces this hole diameter back to the standard M5x0.8 size, for use with the existing hardware. This process simply and easily renews the worn threads in the easily damaged aluminum alloy used in this bike frame.

  • would this work on a spark plug ?

  • @111alien111 In theory, yes. But in practice, you need to pull the cylinder head off, otherwise you would find a lot of metal filings getting down into the cylinder, which can scratch the piston bores and lead to even bigger problems.

  • Great vid, is the helicoil a M5.
