I designed this archer pillbox to be used in an interactive PvP arena. However, strategic pillbox placement could also save yourself while traversing land in survival.
This pillbox was designed to be defeated in 3 ways: shooting the archer off the plate long enough to rush in, breaking 1 of the 4 exposed redstone to create a single-pistons breach which must be repaired to maintain full defense, and placing an item on the wooden plate to render it unusable until the defender(s) can build a stairway and jump in to remove the item (use block protection, ceilings, and stone pressure plates to disable any of these intentional flaws).
Edit: I forgot to mention in the video that I was trying to minimize the amount of visible redstone so that PvP arenas without block protection can reduce repair time for redstone damage or for aesthetic reasons. This setup is for those sorts of build and defend wave arenas where you're given time to build before each round, but you don't have the time for extensive wire repairs during combat. "Interactive PvP arena" was too vague a description, and I never differentiated between the protection needs for this version and the easier version. You can just surround the pressure pad with redstone if you're not building one of these in a PvP arena or have block protection. Thanks to bushka2000 for pointing that out. Created in Beta 1.4 using the pistons mod. I also use the single player commands mod when performing large-scale testing.
Ummm I'm very confused. On PvP in Minecraft I'm always the "sniper" or archer. But I'm confused as to what the purpose of this mechanism is for, could someone explain plz?

@gh02t1939 In open "field" areas of PvP arenas (such as a castle's courtyard), these provide instant, limited defense for bowmen which often require a coordinated effort between at least two people to take down. In free-for-all matches, it's kind of a defensive bonus for being king of the hill. When installed on a 1-tall hill, it also makes climbing impossible until the pillbox is taken out (can't jump up). Thus, these are great for Normandy style team maps and courtyards

hey u coulda easily pu the redstone underground evrywhere then the piston under where they are and place a block ontop of them

@xXhodeb This was before sticky pistons were added, and the 4 redstone on top is meant to be there for opposing players to disable the pillbox temporarily in PvP maps. I have two more pillbox videos: one for PvE, and another with entirely hidden redstone. The links to those videos are in the description along with everything else I just said

I love how you wasted time just to make that awesome intro
