in the Tomb Of Qualopec at 0.11 I didn't know it was possible to wake up the Mummy, I shot one of them a few times and it 'died' but didn't know you could 'wake them up'

That happened to me also. Actually it took me ages to realize how that switch sequences works, and took me even more to realize I had to convert them into gold bars. Spent no less than 15 hours doing that. And The Cistern was a pain also. Long after that, I saw how TR1 can be simple when compared to TR4.

It's not hard. You just have to go to that part of the level until Pierre shows up. After that, don't shoot him, just go back to the lever that controls the water and activate it. Pierre won't disappear (like the enemies on TR2 in Living Quarters). He still will be able to shoot you from places you can't even see him and there's nothing you can do with him underwater.
