This is a sample of the low-light performance of the Sony DCR-HC62 camcorder. It was taken in my back yard at night with some low-wattage outdoor lighting. The bulbs on the garage are 25-Watt incandescent bulbs, so the scene is pretty dark. I used various combinations of the four low-light settings available on the camera: night shot light, color slow shutter, auto slow shutter, and super night shot plus.

  • Does it have Nightshot and Super Nightshot?

  • It has super nightshot plus, which you can only use when the nightshot light is on. There is no mode just called NightShot. The other two low-light modes are color slow shutter and auto slow shutter, as shown in the video.

  • Hi, the slow video frame on certain configurations is real (the real recording film?), or is the video from youtube, or after the editing?

  • This is the way it actually records in certain modes in low light. The slow frame rate is not due to youtube compression.

  • So is this night vision, can you see with no lights at all?

  • @dfduygsdsgdfq Maybe if you get a waterproof case for it. It isn't a waterproof camera.

  • Great video, thanks! I just got this camera, and by adding 1 IR add-on (Sima), it's fantastic.

  • OPETH... NICE SONG. N VID.

  • thank you. superb.

  • Thank you for this helpful test! What can you tell me about the auto focusing capacity/speed? To me, it seems the new miniDV handycams from Sony are worse than the old ones in this respect. I have the HC51 and it is struggling to focus in low light (i.e. indoors).
