Persepolis (Old Persian: 'Pars', New Persian: تخت جمشید, 'Takht-e Jamshid') was an ancient ceremonial capital of the second Iranian dynasty, the Achaemenid Empire, situated some 70 km northeast of modern city of Shiraz, not far from where the small river Pulwar flows into the Kur (Kyrus). To the ancient Persians, the city was known as Parsa, meaning the city of Persians, Persepolis being the Greek interpretation of the name (Περσες (meaning Persian)+ πόλις (meaning city)). In contemporary Iran the site is known as Takht-e Jamshid (Throne of Jamshid).

The largest and most complex building in Persepolis was the audience hall, or Apadana with 72 columns, accessible by two large sets of stairs.

  • we have rebuilt again the empire and founded more cities.

he who lays in ruins is not our empire is the souls of our enemies.

  • Merci, I never learned that either. Hopefully people will share culture and history; listen with an open mind/heart and we can ALL learn from mistakes and understand the lies and deception from all the people involved, no more race hatred, it is time to become a Unity of mankind, if we TRY!

  • Continue:

While under Persian protection the Athenians help the revolt in Ionia against the Persians! So the Persian king went to Greece to give them a lesson!

Why don't you learn from your mistakes and stop backstabbing the Iranians!

BTW, what the West teaches in their school about the famous PERSIAN WARS is no more than a footnote in the Iranian history. Our kings never participated in the wars and we lead small campaigns despite what Herodotus likes to claim.

  • Western history often fails to acknowledge the real reason behind the Persian's campaigns to the West. At the time Greece had not become united. Athenians were afraid of the Spartans so they asked the Persians to provide them with support in case of a Spartan invasion. Persians agreed!
