  • Greyhounds have zero body fat. Their skin tears easily. Any wound requires stitches. They get excited and like to snap at each other and younger dogs play rough. Muzzles are cheaper than going to the vet. If they are retired racers, they usually get real excited when they get to wear them. Most don't mind them at all.

  • All of the dogs you saw in the video are retired racers. Grace who is my dog gets very excited when she sees the muzzle, as she knows she is going to the dog park to see her friends. Our first girl, Georgia; HATED the muzzle and never wore one, but then neither did any of her playmates (a different group than we hang with now)and there was never any fighting or snapping. Come to think of it, those dogs were all pretty laid back and genteel!

  • whats the deal with the material muzzles? Is it to keep them from biting..sickness..try and keep the cold out?(noticed they all have jackets). Cant figure out what the deal is for those things. We goto the dog park all the time and havent seen mouth covers like that. If its for aggressive dogs then they shouldnt be in there in the first place.

  • The material muzzles are "racing" muzzles. I'm not sure why the dogs had those either to be honest. Back in their racing days Greyhounds are typically very excited immediately before and after and during a race, and may nip at other dogs running near them. We muzzle our dogs to prevent excitement-induced bites.

  • I have a retired racer that is 5 yrs old. We meet with as many as 10+ other Greyhounds each Saturday and Sunday at our off leash dog park in Southern California. It is so wonderful to see the dogs interact. My dog Stiles loves the park and cries to get out of the car to see his friends. This is a big part of our lives. Best to you for being able to socialize your dogs in this manner, it has proved to be very positive for both the dogs and the humans.

  • Now I've seen the video I see what you mean by a 'dog park' - brilliant idea - great for socialising doggies and meeting other doggy owners to swap tips, etc. We don't have those in England.

  • Dog park?? We don't have those in England. What's a dog park?? BTW - I have 7 ex racing Greyhounds.

  • I think every city should own a dog park!! I have a loving greyhound and a whippet but there is no dog park anywhere near to us!! We do walk them tho...but it's not the same!

  • I see. Thanks for the reply.
