VOLHWATER
Volhwater is a stimulating idea of Alexander Wechgelaar to solve the problem of the rising sea-level in one, in fact obvious, co-ordinated gesture.
Within the marges of and utilizing that which is given in Wechgelaar's inventive concept, technical realization and a possible consequence are clearly filmed and stated in a film by Jaap Verseput with an Dutch-English translation by Barbara Jean.

  • dear jan, there are more things between heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy about a bunch of sand (free to w.s.).it is now possible to connect the useful and the attractive, namely also to heal the world-wide 'globus hystericus'; when you look at Africa; the climate wars can stop a paid African opportunity to work for the benefit of the whole world for more than one century and a lake that can be a source of wonderful fishing

    y s a. w.

    questions will be answered soon.

  • of course!

Nothing will happen without the permission of ten african countries, the owners of the sahara,

  • Lex,

How come you think the Sahara is just a useless huge container of sand? In my view S. is (and should be) a Nature Reserve. Serious environmentalists will fervidly oppose your project - is my guess.

"Nothing as sexy as the down-fall of mankind" - (that will do for now).

  • Lex,

    Consequently two questions emerge:

    1. Because of the evaporation do you think you can catch up with the process evaporation-precipitation? Otherwise it's just "carrying water to the sea" as we're using to say.

    2. Do you think you can keep up with the sealevel increment because of the water that comes from the "outside", i.e. from the inside of the earth, the so called juvenile water? "Mopping with the faucet wide open" as we like to say.

    Jan Karman

  • Two things on your idea:

    1. Could it be that there has been an earlier such attempt in a previous mankind generation, which has lead to th Dead Sea: when collecting salt water in the Sahara, during the first thousands of years there will only be vaporation ... until it pivots.

    2. From your story I can't destill how the arithmetic was done.

How much land-ice will be melting (sea-ice is irrelevant)? How large is the surface on which that melted water has to be spread out?

  • I am missing practicalities within this idea....it sounds like a tremendously expensive idea to me and furthermore, the winds that are changed by this system can have huge effects on precipitation in very vulnerable areas...I understand the time limits, however, climatology might provide some useful insights....nevertheless, I agree that the Sahara is a potentially interesting place to find sustainable global solutions, let's ask the locals first though :)

  • mooi bloesie.

  • Volhwater seems to me

a constructive idea for a natural solution

    AND

a natural idea for a constructive solution..:

constructive in a lot of ways.
