@moonywap - Tom voiced Gently Benevolent and the twit of a journalist, Sourquill, in the pilot episode. However, it took some time for the BBC to commission a series, and when that time came, he was not available to record the first series, so he was replaced by Anthony Head.
There's a link on the show's Wikipedia page, to an article in which Mark Evans discusses having to replace several performers from the pilot, who were unavailable for the series.
