@dumfart21 , I think they'd have to be flying very, very low. The range is not very far with a 3" barrel.

@chraw1983 I would concur with the other gentleman, .44 mag would be good to pack thru bear country. If you like the .45 long colt a lot, check out the .454 casull cartridge, guns chambered in it can fire both, and if you don't mind some extra recoil, the .460 s&w mag fires all three. The .454 casull has more punch than the .44mag and .460 has almost as much as the .500, with a faster but slightly lighter bullet. I wouldn't wanna face a charging bear with any less than .357mag.

A really decent caliber would be a .44 mag though.

im looking for a hiking gun. would the 45 stop an average size black bear. per i hike in black bear country. i currently carry a sccy 9mm. your opinion would be of help to me.

if you shoot .45s out of it, its really accurate even with a 3inch barrel on it
