I agree with your last sentence. However, as an athiest, I don't believe in angels or heaven hence the rest of your comment is nonsense to me.

So either you converted during the last 7 months, or more likely you are a LIAR. Which by the way is NO SUPRISE to anyone reading your post. Maybe next you will tell everyone reading your post that you can be Jewish, a Zen Buddhist, and an atheist at the same time. You are the boorish fool. Get help.

That's right, Jay. As Cohen says, to this day, he maintains his Jewish religious faith (Judeo-Christian, if you listen to his lyrics) while living by many of the philosophical principles of Buddhist philosophy. There's no contradiction for Cohen; he embraces - practices, if you will - both. BTW Jay, have you ever considered the possibility that I'm not attacking Cohen because I, too, am Jewish? I'm going to sign off now with that little surprise because you're getting to be a real bore. Shalom!

petomane1, I quoted Mr. Cohen, I know what he said and why he said it. He studied some principles of Zen Buddhism for short period in his life, but is and always has been firm in his Jewish faith. You are one of the Jehovah Witnesses of atheists, an Evangelical Atheists. As such you are compelled to attack everyone who believes in God. That is the only reason you are posting here online. Mr. Cohen is a firm believer in God. But he is Canadian so I guess you are giving him a break.

You've completely misunderstood Cohen, Jay. What he means is that since there is no concept of a deity in Zen Buddhism, there is no theological conflict (worshiping two gods). As this is the case, one can be both an observant Jew - or a Christian, for that matter - AND a practicing Zen Buddhist without contradiction. For Cohen - I refer you to your quote - Zen Buddhism functions a way of life while Judaism remains as his religion. Must I explain everything to you my little yankee-doodle?

Leonard Cohen is an observant Jew, but he did spent five years living in a Zen Buddhist monastery. He has said the Zen training helped him to "stop whining" and accept what life hands him. He said "in the tradition of Zen that I’ve practiced, there is no prayerful worship and there is no affirmation of a deity. So theologically there is no challenge to any Jewish belief ". Why are you not bashing him for believing in God. That's right you thought he was a practicing Zen Buddhist. Wrong again.

Once again Jay, your acid tongue has cut me to the quick. However, I'm impressed that you know so much about our Leonard Cohen. Except maybe for the part about kicking someone's teeth in. Land's sake, Jay: Cohen is a Zen Buddhist not an American. Speaking of which, Cohen wrote that "Democracy is coming to the USA....Past the reefs of greed, through the squalls of hate". But it hasn't arrived yet, has it Jay. In the meantime, you're certainly welcome to come up here and wait until it does.

petomane1,you and Leonard Cohen are both Canadians, and that is all you have in common with him. You are a looser who gets his kicks using a stupid alias and insulting a great artist and her fans on the internet. Mr Cohen is a Canadian Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter, musician, poet, and novelist, a Companion of the Order of Canada, received a Prince of Asturias Award for literature, to name only a few honors. Even at 79 if he heard you say he was just like you, he would kick your teeth in.

Ooooo Jay, you really got me with that one. My goodness, what a cutting comment. Gosh I feel like such a fool, Jay. How will I ever post again after being publically humiliated in such a brutal fashion?

I see you like Leonard Cohen, Jay, my little American amigo. Did you know he's Canadian just like me? I certainly hope so.
