Horray, a new video of my harvester ants. Hibernation went well without any problems. I started to feed them mealworm pupae and mealworm beetles so the ant larvae can start growing again. If you want to feed them mealworm pupae too, make sure you kill them with boiling water. Those pupae are touch-sensitive and will twitch around like mad, possibly hurting attacking ants.

I don't know how many ants I have now and I don't really want to count them. :D Look for yourselve.

  • i have a queston can worker ants perduce a queen? becose my queens died..=(

  • No, workers can't lay fertile eggs. The colony raise and falls with the queen. Some ant species are accepting multiple queens per nest though.

Why don't you wait for their nuptial flight instead of destroying colonies?

  • should i go ahead and put dead bugs in there?

  • Sure, remember to replace untouched dead bugs every other day with fresh ones. You don'T want to have mold growing there. :D

  • hey i have a queston the red fire ants i cought made a tunnel and there not comeing out what the heck are thay doing do you know??

  • What do you think? They are laying eggs and living a happy life. You should have put them in a test tube, if you want to observe them. :p

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..... I've got a question (I don't have a colony yet) Do queens just naturally produce soldiers, or does something trigger it?

  • they would know immediatly. And would soon follow her to death

  • yes they will die after some time.

  • what would happen if you killed the queen? all the ants continue there daily like? will they even realize the queen is dead?

  • the queen ant looked like it was dead

  • You put carpenter ants in a cork nest? lol

  • Nice video man! Winter is over and my ants are coming out of their beds too, working out all day to get into bikini shape. Can't await to put some new videos up here, too. Keep it up!
