It's meant for old people who don't know shit about technology and should buy technology.

but its just 50 bucks in the store to get it setup there charging for coming to your house on top of that gas isn't cheap lol :)

@MattRileyResponds believes it to be, this is the way the general consumer DOES think, and of course the corporate part of the company does know how to capitalize on this. We do not agree on the all these prices as well.../soapboxend

Hello Mr. Iobuffa, I work for the geek squad. In defense of Geek Squad (and defending my job) The agents/installers etc DO NOT determine the price dictated for installs. True. the process of plugging in cables is beyond simple to someone who is familiar with how to do things of that nature, but I speak to people on a daily basis that would rather pay money to rest assure that it will be hooked up correctly rather then to attempt to do it their selves. As outlandish as you (a fellow tech head)

@MrRamziaB, somewat true but the installation is very easy and yet they charge way overprice. ie: oil change for $40 in shop; if you do it yourself, it costs like 10 bucks but you have to go thru the messing process and screwing screws carefully. whereas, installation ps3 is more like plug it in, no difficult or messing process.

@leepialong and for many of us, that is overpriced because we know how to do it. but to someone who doesnt know how to do it themselves, the service is a godsend.
Just because you dont agree with it, doesnt make it wrong. remember, there are alot of dumb people out there.
-
@MrRamziaB Considering everything that you appropriately mentioned this seems like a very reasonable price even considering the simplicity of the job. I really wish people would tell the whole story before making something seem so horrible. Please educate yourself before ranting on the internet next time sir.

oh yea, they also charge you install your own OS CD for $130.

The 129.99 is for a whole room install. it covers up to 7 devices, ongoing support, troubleshooting, as well as updates. the trip-charge to have a GS agent come to the house is 99.99. that pays for the gas, insurance (for the truck) insurance (for the agent) and his hourly wage. then it's a 30 charge for him to do the work.
the sign in the photo is only half there. the rest of the sign states the rest of the stuff that is included. which is Networking, and securing it. along other perks.

How can you charge someone $130 to plug in 3 cables (including the controller). Why don't you ask Jiffy Lube how they can charge $60 for an oil change you can do yourself for $10? Shenanigans! Oh no wait, it's called the real world.
do they charge for plugging in a lamp
