from Handel's oratorio Theodora (HWV 68)

Lorraine Hunt Lieberson with
Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Nicholas McGegan

First performed March 16, 1750 at Convent Garden Theatre, London.

Libretto by Thomas Morrell after Robert Boyle's "The Matyrdom of Theodora and Didymus" (1687).

THEODORA:
Angels, ever bright and fair,
Take, oh take me to your care;

Speed to your own courts my flight
Clad in robes of virgin white.

  • Handel is my favourite composer -his music is inexhaustible! I was introduced to Lorraine Hunt-Liebersohn singing Handel in Peter Sellar's production of "Theodora" on DVD and was totally overwhelmed by the music and acting. II was on a high for weeks after viewing it and get the same effect whenever I rewatch it.

  • @MrAbellink Yes, I have that DVD too and have watched it many times. Her performance in that is simply brilliant. I know exactly the effect you're describing.
