In addition to the "shaking grass" carried over from Generation IV, in which you can potentially encounter rare Pokémon, Black and White have also made a similar effect happen for water you can surf on. These places where bubbles appear on the water's surface are called "Fishing Spots," and while you can simply surf over them to encounter a rare Pokémon, you can get even rarer Pokémon (usually evolved forms from previous generations) if you use the Super Rod on these spots.

For example, Feebas appear pretty rarely in the water areas of Route 1 (about a 5% chance when fishing), but if you use the Super Rod in a Fishing Spot, the likelihood of encountering a wild Feebas increases to 60%. In addition, Feebas's evolved form, Milotic, will only appear when you use the Super Rod on a Fishing Spot (a 5% chance), and other than trading from Generation IV, the only other way to have a Milotic in Black and White is to trade a Feebas while it is holding a Beauty Scale.

Fishing Spots are a great way to obtain high-leveled and rare Pokémon without going through the trouble of grinding levels and having to trade with other gamers all of the time, so if you have the Super Rod and you see a Fishing Spot, try it out and see what rare Pokémon you can uncover.

NOTE: You can only do this AFTER beating the main game. The only fishing rod in Black and White is the Super Rod, which Looker will give to you soon after continuing your game after seeing the credits.

  • I mean Feebas on 1st try

  • Got a Milotic on 2nd try and a Feebas on 2nd

  • @dontfeedhobos hella easy?!?!?! im trying to get milotic for fucking 2 weeks and i keep getting the basculin

  • Hey. Based on the text you have Japanese version correct?

If so I will trade you an American Pansage for a Japanese Axew.

  • I think Milotic in this game isn't as rare as it was in the previous versions. The only way to get it before was to cheat, or legitimately evolve a Feebas by getting it's beauty MAXED (not easy). Now all you have to do is surf into a circle of water and find it hella easy. Lame.

  • i find this incredibly sad -_-, i legitimately evolved my feebas

  • It's after you beat the elite four right ?

  • @corsitiantus It kinda sucks, but you can't find the Old Rod or the Good Rod in the Black or White version. The only rod you can get is the Super Rod, which you will recieve after beating the Elite 4, N, and Ghetsis, and recieving the National Pokedex.

  • i surfing and surfing on route 1 but im not see fishing spots

  • Where do you find a normal fishing rod?
