Hello pretty one. I've been thinking about what you said about wearing a hook or another prosthesis. Don't you think you can do more and do it more easily when you're wearing a hook or your other prosthesis? This isn't to say that you haven't adapted well but I wonder if you'd find it better with a prosthesis? It must make certain tasks easier. What do you think?
I've gone through several prosthetics as well. I had a myo-electric hand, but I rarely used it because I was more clumsy with it than without. I tried a harness + hook setup for a while too, but I had trouble with it for the same reasons. After living my whole life with a stump, I just get along better without using a prosthesis.
Some of the new designs are catching my eye though. These i-limb prostheses look really slick, but they also look incredibly expensive. Probably out of my price range.
@BologneyT Yeah, I think a lot of our misguided perceptions come subconsciously, and if we can only identify those emotions which are triggered by our subconscious minds we can overcome our fears and move forward to understanding. It's natural for us to be afraid of what we don't understand, and for something very human-like that's not a human, our natural instincts tell us to be scared because it doesn't understand, it's not natural, even though we ourselves understand what it is.
I didn't get prosthetic fingers until 5 years later, so I have found they actually get in the way most of the time, but for video on my main channel I prefer to have them on, because i want people to focus on the review and not the hand
@UrbanizeThis That's an interesting concept, and it makes so much true sense. People do want things that look human so it has traits we understand and relate to, but we still want to know what it is. If the robot looks too human, then even though we can still clearly tell it's a robot, it's too close to the line for comfort and we get uneasy and creeped out because we are afraid of the idea of not being able to tell whether someone is a robot or a human!
Hey I'm wearing a prosthesis... suck it! LOL
