This is a lovely Christmas song from Max Reger (1873-1916), one of the Fünf Kinderlieder (Five Songs for Children), Op. 142.

Maria am Rosenstrauch

Maria sitzt am Rosenbusch
und wiegt den Jesusknaben;
kommen drei Englein in leichtem Husch
und bringen die schönsten Gaben.

Tragen mit Düften süß und lind
drei weiße Rosen blüten,
wollen das liebe Jesuskind
ganz sanft im Schlaf behüten!

Poem by Ernst Ludwig Schellenberg (1883-1964)

Maria by the Rosebush

Maria sits by the rosebush
And rocks the infant Jesus;
In a brief moment there come three angels
Bringing the most beautiful gifts.

Bearing fragrances sweet and mild
Three white roses bloom,
That will protect the dear baby Jesus
Quite softly in his sleep.
