In reality, teacher's salaries aren't nearly what they should be. Teachers regularly get pay freezes and their COLA cut or delayed at best. I am not a teacher but advocate for making schools better. Schools and civil services did not bankrupt California nor any other state. Poor investing into commodities and hedgefunds did. Let's look at the negotiation practices and laws, including their bidding rights, of private contractors for the state before cutting schools, police, and firefighters.

Okay, I get it, this is California-specific... While we have increased education funding next-door. Though, mind you, funding to Arizona schools mostly goes to pockets of the board of education members instead of to schools...

Aren't. It's not about teachers getting more money, it's about thousands of teachers getting pink slipped and class volume reaching upwards in the 40's. More intermingling of low level kids who need special instruction with higher level kids. Losses of electives and sports, and misappropriated funds. The government is totally fucking our education system. And if you had to deal with some of the shit that teachers went through, then 65k a year wouldn't seem like a whole lot.
