In this edition of Simple British Cooking we make a lovely steamed sponge that can be used as a treacle sponge or use jam if you like - serve with our fresh home made vanilla custard

  • Since I'm diabetic I'm wondering how many substitutions I can make to reduce the sugar and still have it taste good? Guess I'll just have to experiment

  • thank you. i tried and it came out great!!!

  • I wonder if I can find treacle syrup over here in the states easier than finding treacle pudding? I love treacle pudding from when I lived in England, but over here we can only find the stuff at the Commissary (store on the military base), so I have to get my mother-in-law to buy it for me. World Market might actually carry the syrup though, then I could make it myself from scratch.

Never have made it from scratch... always just used the can stuff.

  • love it was lovely thanks

  • I love treacle sponge. they have it at weatherspoons.
