The sanctioning mineral companies involvement in the Congo will not stop the violence
In general, foreign investment in a dirt poor country is a GOOD thing. It brings money and jobs to people that have neither. Do you think the country will be more stable with LESS jobs?
There is a bias among cetain groups that large corporations have evil intent.. But the plane fact is that they bring millions of dollars to millions of people in a counrty where most people live off of a dollar a day,

More capitalist casualties in another African country. I could go off about either the corporate suits or Africans and how they have a strong disregard for human life, but I will not. Change now corporate America.

"You can lead a horse to water..."
Honestly, only a few African tribes are capable of a democratic society. Good luck with the Congo, but it will be a while before anything ever changes there; not because of the demand for this or that, but pure and simple socio-political dynamic.

this is going to start with the shareholders...... not the companies. The biggest win capitalism has ever had over people /humanity is allowing them to become equity partners.

Wow! I never knew Congo was as bad as Detroit.

I do honestly care about what's going on in the Congo, but think about it. The companies that have been buying conflict materials do not care because what they get is cheap and they don't experience the violence. For all they know what's going on in the Congo, might as well be in a whole other world.

The reason these humanitarian groups use actors is not because people are stupid and will do whatever they are told to do. Actors and "faces" speak up for such issues because their voice's are heard. Their voices hold weight and draw attention. People are a hell of a lot more interested in what Brad Pitt or (the lucious) Saffron Burrows says than your highschool history teacher that's a fact, and that's why celebrities are used for such campagins. Its a matter of pragmatism.
Can we also ask these celebrities to give up there mansions and 50 car garages?

These kinds of causes, while good on paper and certainly pull the right heart strings, are ridiculous to be blunt. They mention tungsten in the video as a precious mineral used in making cell phones. Tungsten is also the key element in making light bulbs. Do you guys have any idea how many millions of cell phones and light bulbs are out there? It would be cheaper and smarter to deal with the criminals in the Congo than with the consumer based on the sheer volumes we're talking about
