Here is the wonderful R-390A hooked up to a CV157 SSB Adapter. This adapter is an early attempt of adding SSB to the R-390A , it features a multitude of controls including AFC. Cool to look at and a Fantastic piece of 'art' from the 50's.
Thanks for the great review of the CV157. I restore R 390, R 390A and R 392 receivers here in South Carolina in the states, however, I have yet to play with a CV 157.
Perhaps I will be fortunate enough at some point to have one myself.
@wa4aos Hi Glenn, yes I like the older valve gear and have a few of the collins sets around. With the CV157 I first saw photos about 10 years ago and 2 years ago was able to pick one up. The unit was in very good original condition but needed a little cleaning. Its a hugh overkill for SSB and has probably the Biggest Mechanical filters I have ever seen. The Audio recovery is excellent and I really like it. If you can find one and its in ok condition I would recommend picking it up..
