"Traditional marriage?" Varies. Lakota chief Crazy Horse had one or two male spouse(s) and many other Native American nations also have had what we now call same-sex marriages. Ethnographers have documented this. Some examples: Omahas, Zapotecs, Mohaves, Crow, Hidatsa, Ojibwa, Winnebago, Yuma and Timucua. Other cultures too. In 17th century Fukian Province China, same-sex marriages between gay men seem to have been common. And in West Africa, "woman marriage[s]"--practiced by many nations.

@dafttool I think everyone should have a chance to air opinions. After all, throwing light on intolerance is the best disinfectant.

I've seen Blackwell owned so may times. Watch him try to argue w/Christopher Hitchens. Being a Black, right wing conservative will never help black or white people. Look at Michael Steele. In addition. if you poll a large section of black people, they are afraid of homosexuals and hate them. They affected the failure of prop.8. If Obama comes out as FOR same sex marriage he will lose many black supporters he had in 2008. The dude is in trouble.

I did not understand Blackwell's apparrent put down "they got the joke and the
American people got >'

@soundscape718 I never said that all blacks are religious retards!!?!! 1/2 the blacks kids at my school either have or wouldn't mind having gay friends. what do you mean by you feel ignored? I'm really curious about that

@soundscape718 I will take your word that homophobia is a problem in black community. I do believe that manyt people, regardless of race, assume that any advancement in civil rights is a zero-sum-game. It is understandable that blacks, who have had it worse than most groups in this country, would be sensative to seeing LGBT persons make civil rights gains, especially if they have strong religious beliefs. Ken Blackwell, of any person, should know better than this.

Why does Matthews have to have representatives of hate groups on his show?
Ken Blackwell a black bigot, how is that for irony?

There are much bigger issues in the upcoming presidential election, but that has never stopped hatemongers from scapegoating & victimizing the gay community to get votes or to divert attention. I expect that will continue. :-/ But what the hell is Matthews interviewing a designated hate group member (the Family Research Council) for the opposing view? Does he bring on white supremists every time a "black" story erupts? Quit treating these bigots as if they are respectable members of society. >.<
