Greatest Family in American Classics
So glad to see the recent posts ... This legacy should never be lost
Pass it on to your children and grandchildren
I used to play on my grandmothers Autoharp and am now trying to play the dulcimer to these old songs... Wish me luck

@wmoday All of this is true, but Vernon Dalhart recorded "the Prisoner's Song" to the same melody in 1925. The melody has been #1 five times, by 5 different singers, and 5 different sets of lyrics. Truly amazing!

Marianne, I'm thinking tonight of my blue eyes.

For those who sometimes question the influence of the Original Carter Family, this song is a perfect example of their influence. This melody/tune was used by Roy Acuff for "The Great Speckled Bird", Hank Thompson used it for "The Wild Side of Life", and of course, Kitty Wells used it for her most famous tune, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honkey Tonk Angels". The Carter Family remains by far, the most influential group in Country Music. Great to hear these tunes here.
