This month I became the sponsor of the local zoo's turkey vultures, and joined the Turkey Vulture Society to learn more about the animals I'm sponsoring at the zoo. I see these birds whenever it's warm enough for them to fly.

I see that quite often in the pinelands in New Jersey. They eat road kill.

to me it didnt look like Indian Totems at all but its cool to see so many so close up instead of flying in circles far above like i always see them

I have 2 Turkey Vultures living near my house. I have seen them SO many times and I have also seen alot of big floks of them. The Wing Span of the Turkey Vulture is bigger then me!

Yeah they do that all the time. There are thousands of them in california. They roost like pidgeons wherever people congregate. They would make great target practice but Kosherfornia won't have it.

They hold their wings like that so the sun can bake the bacteria off their wings. It is also said to help them cool down. This pose is called the "horaltic pose." It is quite common.

They are somewhat social and you will find groups like this sometimes. They are just resting and cooling off. Cool vid :)
