  • Every year my garden gets over grown with weeds. Next year I am trying this method! I feel like an idiot now, I am back in the dark ages, trying to pull every weed that appears. This is so much better and I am betting that I will get a lot more out of my garden than I did this year.

  • @lumpofloight Flocculation allows good drainage and aeration, which are essential for a happy soil. Organic matter soaks up comparatively large volumes of water, storing it in the soil "for later". It also provides vectors for plant nutrients to stick to, saving them for later as well. One more thing: mulch material matters. use straw or paper on veggies and annuals, and wood chips or harder woody materials on shrubs, trees and woody perennials.

  • @chest002 redworms love a mulch too. the first few years of mulching are just the very beginning. Over time you'll end up with something you would never have imagined. It doesn't become "dirt". It becomes CO2, and (more) stable organic matter in your soil. The OM in any soil helps its biology in many ways. It helps flocculate your soil (sticking particles together into little balls), which keeps dust (your valuable topsoil) from blowing away in the wind.

  • You over looked the magic that is happening. Earthworms will congregate under the paper mulch. As the paper breaks down, the earthworms think they live at McDonalds. They will eat the broken down material and they dont care where they go to the bathroom. Worm poop is the ultimate fertilizer. Over time worms will run out of bigmacs and need more composted materials for food. The sign of healthy soil is a place earthworms thrive. The more the merrier. Peace

  • nice video, and nice eye candy also

  • Great video. You should read Ruth Stout's book. Love your little garden gnome hidden among the leaves. :)

  • Dirt like that do smell awsome..I guess you have to garden to get this ;)
