Debbie Gibson, the BRITNEY, MILEY, LADY GAGA, CHRISTINA and MARIAH of her day. Debbie inspired all five of them. Anyone else agrees?

Um, first of all I think you need to re-read my comment again then do some research on what the music 'industry" is really all about. I'm sure the panic "attacks" that Deb may have experienced was more about the pressure of conforming to an image from sick fucks at the top than being who she is naturally. Not only was she a Broadway star & prodigy the powers that be couldn't control her as much as they could in Hollywood. So all in all it would make sense of her to do that. Look deeper son....

Your statement is flawed. First, Madonna was already huge before Deb was even discovered. Second, Britney came ten years after Deb was huge. No, Deb left the spotlight to pursue Broadway and to cut back on stress which was really doing a number on her panic attacks. Please stop blaming two different generations of music. Whether you like them or not had nothing to do with her stepping out of the spotlight. Also, she made many amazing albums for years after.

My older half brothers were the ones who got me interested in Debbie Gibson and her music back in the late 80's even though I was only in elementary school at the time. My oldest brother was in high school and the other one was in junior high school. :-)

As much as I adore & admire her this is exactly why she was taken out of the limelight & skanks like Madonna, Britney, & such were paid attention to. Because Deborah wouldn't conform to "the image" of sexualizing herself to sell her music. She could sing, had a message, was talented beyond belief, & didn't need to stoop to such gutter trash levels. To get where we are today, wholesome people like Deb had to be "removed" from the limelight so the establishment could accomplish a darker purpose.
