The things you do when asked to come to a fancy-dress party and you're given the letter T and have to make something beginning with that letter. Well, when one runs a model train shop, it's not hard to think of something beginning with T. But how to incorporate trains? This hat is the result. The train is T gauge (1:450 scale on 3mm gauge track) and fortunately, has magnetic wheels, so it stays on the rails, even if the hat is on its side.

  • @venusflytrap99 There are two 9 volt batteries in the top corners of the had. :)

  • If you meet a lady on the street - DISASTER! ;)

  • @MMODoubter Depends how quickly I take my hat off. :)

  • @mgrande11 Technically, it's a Clyde ML2 cab (Australian built) but the nose pressings were certainly from EMD. There should be one in every backyard. :)

  • As cool as the hat is what's even better is that he has EMD F unit cab in his backyard.

  • @venusflytrap99 It plugs into his brain.

  • omg...how cool is this!! its stupendous!!

  • damn thats cool

  • My hat goes to you! Brilliant

  • @AllTrains Nah! It's okay. I figured you were "having a lend", so to speak. :)

There are few "new" ideas. Whenever you think you're the first to do something, it often turns out that there were others long before you. I thought of this myself, but there could well have been others before me. I'm only aware of layouts built on hats that are static - on a shelf - not a head. :)

  • @emdB67 I know you didn't really steal my idea. I had thought of a hat like this a couple years ago but never really started the project. I'm actually glad to see someone put this idea into action. Its really cool! Sorry if my last comment was a little harsh.

  • @AllTrains I suspect not. :) Although I knew of N scale layouts on hats before I made this, I think this would be the first T gauge one - and also the first layout that you can wear whilst it is running. I've even driven my 5" gauge train on a public track when wearing the operating layout on my head.

  • YOU STOLE MY IDEA!!!

  • I want one. That is the singular best hat I have ever seen. Awesome!

  • One of the coolest things I've ever seen.

  • @jbcthunderdogs The train has come off once or twice. But the magnetic wheels usually keep it on the rails. The good thing about it is that T gauge is so light that there's usually little or no damage from the fall. So long as nobody steps on it. :)

  • i would tip my hat to you if my t gauge freight and amtrak wouldnt fall of lol

  • I tip my hat to you. Excellent job and keep up the good work. Next time try a engineers cap.

  • @trainlover479 There are single-ended versions, the S class (A7) and double-ended B class (ML2). Copy and paste the following in YouTube's search to see a video of both types in action (I can't include a link).

  • @emdB67 ohhhhhh lol interesting, i like some double cabs like the GG1 but some engines look beter off with a single cab.

  • The paint scheme is based on that of the Erie RR. It's actually Victorian Railways, the former state government railway here in Victoria, Australia. The cab was from a 1952 Australian-built Double-ended ML2, known as the "B class". 26 were built, most of them are still in service today, in one form or another.

  • @emdB67 LOl it looks so close to the Santa Fe Yellow and Black scheme! xD lol i dont know much about the santa fe, i live in new england and near the former Boston and Maine railroad. What F Unit type is that Cab from?

  • @trainlover479 No, it isn't. I'm in Australia. :)

  • @drwhotrainfan I tend not to wear the had around town, but have worn it to a number of model railway exhibitions. It generates a heap of interest there and results in me seemingly being the most photographed person there. :)
