Foxton Locks - Sunday 11th July 2010.
One sunny Sunday afternoon in July I took a bike ride down to Foxton Locks, near Market Harborough. It has two sets of five 'staircase' locks which raise and lower boats the 75ft between lower and upper levels of The Grand Union Canal.
Filmed by James Hutton.

@connordaniel23 Ah, you're here already Connor. I'm glad you like this. It's about 8 1/2 miles from where I live. Close to Market Harborough. There's a big steam and vintage vehicle event in August which I'll film. Meanwhile, I'm going again on Sunday weather permitting. Thanks again buddy. james:-)))

James, thanks for sending this--I dont know how I missed it--- this is the oddest thing I've ever seen ! Is this wider than it appears in the picture? It looks as if your boat could get all scratched up !!! It appears so narrow--and are people visiting the ones who open it? what if nobody is there? LOL I have never seen anything like this --honestly !! This is a fascinating area--I love that you post this--gives us a chance to visit without leaving the sofa LOL It just looks so narrow

@NewOrleansWoman Hi Shelley. Glad you watched this. On a regular lock, two boats can sit side by side, but as this is a steep 'staircase' lock, it's designed to be narrow. It's a big tourist attraction too which is why everybody likes to open and close the gates. Normally just the people on the boat would do it. It's a fantastic place and I'm going again as soon as I fix a puncture. james x.
