  • If you listen carefully, you may recognize the chord progressions of "The Way You Look Tonight." Al Haig plays a very nice piano solo as well. Don Lanphere is on tenor, Tommy Potter on bass and Max Roach on drums. This is from Fats' last studio recording session in Sept, 1949.

  • Thank you for listening FatsBlows : I should have published it on a sweedish "Metronome " record I own as it sounds better. Anyway, I didn't know it was issued from his last studio session ! On this 1955 Metronome EP, also features " Infatuation " " Wailing wall " & "Stop "..which one should I choose for Utube? may the the 3 !

  • really sorry this is happening. I went to make a post here, and I saw the warning. will it ever end? probably not... hope we all meet up somewhere else!

  • Hi Seerider45,

Yes, those were the four selections (with many alternate and incomplete takes) that resulted from the Sept. 1949 session. "Stop" is based on the chords of "Pennies From Heaven" and "Infatuation" is "Gone With The Wild." "Wailing Wall" is a jazz original by Don Lanphere.

Incidentally, the first full length biography of Fats is due out July. It's entitled "The Music and Life of Theodore "Fats" Navarro" and the publisher is "Scarecrow Press."

    Take care,

  • Great music. A very nice vintage record playing machine, too.

  • Don Lanphere sounds great on this.

It would've been interesting to see how

he developed more in this period if he

hadn't run into 'personal problems' that

were common in this era .

  • Fats Navarro is such a virtuoso. So underrated.

  • Rip roaring jazz records rip fun at my blog ... everything you can ask for ... download till your mom drops dead
