when I login to you my university website(Intranet) to access my modules using a my password and username does that in anyway can be considered as a VPN connection? or a simple VPN connection?

@SaifYazeed That is not a VPN connection at all. That's simply loving into a web based app.

Eli,
I loved this overview mate thank you so much. I have one question if you have the time to answer ! Im confused to how the computer @ home finds the server @ the office i.e IP address etc?
Do you register @ domain name on the internet then configure the domain name so it is the middle connection... Sorry if i am vague with this I am just beginning to study Servers and obviously VPN is a factor.

@rsullz11 If you go to WhatIsMyIp it will tell you what your external IP address is. When you are out of the office you then connect using that IP address. Also make sure in the Router the proper ports are forwarded to the VPN server.

@elithecomputerguy was wondering if this would work as well open the CMD and type ipconfig all?
stevenh113 1 month ago
@stevenh113 That will get you your IP address of the computer on the LAN. So anyone on the LAN could use that address to connect to the server. Outside the building someone would need the IP of the WAN and that is what you get from WhatIsMyIP [dot] com. (you also need to forward the ports in the router to the server)
