I think BL gave the Vanden Plas treatment to the wrong car, the Marina would have been a better choice. The Allegro was trying to be funky and right up to date, while the Marina was intended to be somewhat old fashioned and restrained, it would have suited the Vanden Plas grill much more. Though the Vanden Plas 1500 is still a very cute car.

An interesting approach of BL's in creating a 'luxury' variant of the Allegro - just don't let the Top Gear team anywhere near it! (several have been sacrificed for that show...)
