1987 - Birmingham Superprix - Onboard with Trevor Lewis

This video is extremely rare, it contains onboard footage with Trevor Lewis in his Rover SD1 Vitesse for the Modified Saloon race at the Birmingham Superprix.

It contains the warm up lap and the first few laps .

Birmingham's Formula Shell Modified Saloon Car Championship race will be the first opportunity many drivers in the series will have had at racing on a street circuit. One such man is Trevor Lewis, a Birmingham catering manager who has been involved with saloon racing over 10 years. He has raced a Rover Vitesse in Production saloon car races for the past two seasons, but is modifying his car especially to race on 'home' soil.

Lewis said " it'll not only the first time I've driven on a street circuit, but the first circuit I've driven on in an anti-clockwise direction which should make life interesting in the wide Rover."

1987 my first race on slicks-no testing , for the production saloon in the modified race. Standard engine etc only blueprinted. One of the best race meetings except the following year in a 6r4. Racing was Fun and fast, would like an SD1 again (twin plenium race car).

Have been trying to resurect the Superprix but we need a great deal more political will before it will happen. Would love to know how the video surfaced as only one copy was made.

Government put a stop to this due to people complaining about the money and noise pollution e.c.t i watched this with my dad wow 21 years have gone quick.

Yes, but look at the Red and WHite Rover SD1 well ahead of all of them... it just blasts away and youdon't see it again!!... It killed ALL of them!!! about 5:30 into the film.. the mighty SD1 rides again!!
