Still, the moment he throws knives &kills people he loses all his rights to sympathy. I know people back then couldn't tolerate infidelity from a woman (which makes it all the more unfair as it was never the same for men) but I don't have to like it. So, no, I don't feel sorry for Leo. He killed Mei, and even Jin may succumb to his wounds, but Leo just walks away. Seems unfair to me. But then that's part of what makes a great film, to show how unfair life is...

I love this movie, and have to buy my copy again. This story is so sad, I feel sorry for all three. During the fight scene between Leo and Jin I couldn't even choose a side. But I think I know why Mei loved Jin more because no matter the danger, even defying the government he worked for, he always came back for her, quick as a flash. Not waiting three years as Leo did, following someone else's orders.

(continued) it's like only at the end do Jin and mei realize the depth of their love for each other only to have it snatched away...

I cried at the end. she had an amazing future ahead of her with the man she loved. You have to understand Leo too. He gave up everything for her, all he wanted was to be loved in return or at least have his love respected. when he learned she loved Jin he felt betrayed. he was angry and hurt and in his mind, he had done more for her than Jin ever could so if he couldn't have her than to him it wasn't right that Jin and mei get their happy ending while he was left.
it's still so sad. it's like onl

Poor Leo, I love her to the very end. He waited for her, He watch as she go about with another man, He would die for her.
You have to be in Leo's shoe to understand his tormented mind.

Jade, I understand your point, but you gotta know that one doesn't kill because of love, one is not jalous or frustrated because of love. Leo's reaction comes from his desire to be loved in return. It's all about his ego. Anyway, very good movie, I love the courage, discipline, wisdom in those asian movies, such as Heros in which ziyi plays also. I would like to live a passionate love like this

I hate sad endings :(

@cghu007 It's not Leo's fault. Leo loved Mei, all the way to the very end. He was heartbroken when he learned Mei loved Jin instead of him. Leo went a little crazy and threw the dagger at Mei's heart, yeah, but try and put yourself in Leo's shoes. It's a heartbreaking story for all 3, you can't single out one person and blame everything wrong on him.

@JadeConful sorry i don't buy it. you don't kill the woman you love because you can't have her.

@cerrenes i dont agree that he gambled with her life in the end to see if she loved jin, i know thats screwed up but then again that kinda proves how much he loves her. love can make people crazy too. i agree that he shoulda let it go but you need to see it from his perspective as well, years of waiting for her only to find that shes fallen for his best friend. thats one slap to the face.
I was like.. "die you bastard, die!" *stab stab Leo*
The snow makes such a good effect for the fight scene, the drops of blood stand out on screen. Dem, but why does tragic love feel so beautiful when they're told in stories?

this is a very sad story and i loved it. i cried at the ending too but i do have a problem with saying they hate leo.
consider this, he gave up 3 years of his life going undercover, 3 years of seperation from his love, 3 years of no one from the house of daggers to remember him or to care for him.
she knew he was always there protecting her from the torture at the beginning, from the soldiers in the flower field and she chose the pretty boy over him
i cry for his unrequited love too
