A short film highlighting one of our home made Halloween props. "Jack (In a box)" is a nasty stuffed rat who lurks inside an old mining company storage crate, and launches upwards to scare unsuspecting passers-by. It is composed out of a lifting arm which is powered by a windshield wiper motor. A small platform is attached to the far end for a scare to be attached. The two armed design ensures that the platform remains level throughout the operation. The scare attachment is not permanent so many objects can take the place of the rat over the years. The lifting arm, motor, and motor base are all secured inside the wooden crate, which is decorated to appear it once was used in an old mining company. To add an enhanced element of surprise, a simple whooping siren circuit was added which activates during the lifting and holding portion of the scare cycle. Both the siren and lifting mechanism are powered from a "free-cycled" PC power supply. The loud sudden noise, combined with the lunging rat, makes for a good scare! It's small scale and easy containment also makes this prop quite portable, opening up a plethora of new possibilities!
