They are working on Liquid fluoride thorium reactors (LFTRs). These things produce carbon free energy that is much cheaper than coal or natural gas and the byproducts decay into Bismuth 213 which is used in cancer treatment. If we want to do something about pollution we should just switch to using them instead. China is working on it. The US has been sitting on the technology since the 1970s.

lol After watching this vid I feel that all the efforts done by developed nations and environmental activists in the countries to raise awareness and reduce carbon output was for nothing as one country fuck it all up while the others try to fix the problem

The technology is a good idea but has many practical implementation problems. I'd love to see them solves - it's a great idea. However, it requires U-233 to start up, the salts often freeze spontaneously, beryllium is toxic, waste management, noble metal build-up, limited fuel lifetime, corrosion from tellurium and so on.

It's a good technology but it has almost all the same problems as nuclear power, in other words. The only real advantage by comparison is its fail safe core.

Yeah but the US is 5.4 times richer than China (GDP per capita).

It's not the number of people; it's money, time, and resource. They're just too lazy to R&D the technology.
