This snow bridge is on Mt Andromeda in the columbia ice-fields. The climbers are students with Yamnuska Mt School. The scary thing is that they crossed this bridge going up. Now think back to the warning that Terry and Paul give about two people traveling on a glacier roped together. If you were going downhill roped to your partner and traveling together do you think you would have held this fall or ended up in the crevasse a hundred feet down with a broken femour. In this case the guides set up a anchor and the climbers jumped the bridge. Remember that the mountains do not know your a bad ass expert climber.

  • what is the song?

  • Haven't got a clue. Find somebody with Shazam on their iphone and find out.

  • how about a video on placing nuts in sedimentary rock

  • you got it!!

  • Damn. cool

  • The guides knew that the bridge was there hence the belay. I am sure it was bigger then they expected. You wouldn't want to walk into that the falling snow would likely bury you

  • Obviously, someone made it across to film the situation. At 12 seconds in you can just see what looks to be a posthole. That first(camera) guy probably was the one to get the "freaked-out" moment. They should have done "Ferris Wheel Arm Swings" with their ice axes while leaping. It would have looked more movie-esk...... Seriously though, what is up with the dude scooting back closer to the crevasse!?? I would have chewed on him for that.

  • dos ist grondln !

  • Great shot! Snow bridges scare the piss out of me. I've been belayed over them many times and NEVER been comfortable.

  • @benuaq Yes, it's much better to place the anchor on the downhill side of the ice bridge, just in case. That's why I like to carry a couple of throwable anchors when I'm on a glacier.

  • collapsing snow bridge over a snow cave!!! : )
