Leaving A Legacy Of Love
Leaving A Lasting Legacy ~ Part 3
October 14th, 2007
1 Corinthians 13:1-3

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." 1 John 4:7-8 (KJV)

"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; His love endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV)

"There are three things that will endure — faith, hope, and love — and the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

3 Things That Will Destroy Love

 Laziness

 Selfishness

 Lack of Respect

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NIV)

How Do I Leave A Legacy Of Love?
1. By Choosing Obedience Over Convenience

Jesus said..."If you love Me, obey My commandments." John 14:15 (NLT)

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..." 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV)

"If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him."
1 Corinthians 13:7 (LB)

2. By Choosing Humility Over Pride.

"Don't let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves. Look out for one another's interest, not just your own." Philippians 2:3&4 (NCV &GN)

"Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
1 Peter 5:5 (NIV)

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16 (NIV)

3. By Choosing Honor Over Disrespect.

"You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others." Colossians 3:13 (NLT)

"When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

"Dear brothers and sisters, what's the use of saying you have faith if you don't prove it by your actions?" James 2:14 (NLT)

"I pray that Christ will live in your hearts by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. And I pray that you and all God's holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ's love—how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is." Ephesians 3:17-18 (NCV)

L'amour
