This is a Turbine Enstrom Helicopter on the Heli Pad of a Greenpeace ship some where off the coast of Ireland. One of the deck straps has not been released correctly, with what was very nearly disastrous consequence. Pilot skill and quick thinking saved the day.

Agreed, excellent piloting... If it had been another pilot you may have witnessed some gore and fatality.. He did pull of a very nice save... Given that it shouldn't have happened in the first place but he is, taking off and landing in the worse possible scenario.
Pilot has skills, the shipping heaving up and down caused the heli to lift off early, any fuckers who doubt his/her skills should get their hands off their dicksticks.
he was lucky. as the heli jumped forward, he increased pitch (raised the nose) in order to "break" ( pretty much the best he could do). however he did so drasticaly that, the tail hit the ground (and I don't think that was his objective) and the tail rotor stopped. with the tail rotor out, the heli started spinning out of control. the spinning of the fuselage also means that the rotor is spinning slower, which drasticaly reduces lift, which lead to the "landing". he was lucky to land on deck
so let's see if I get this... the strap wasn't released, so when the pilot tried to take off, the heli didn't budge. the crew member then released the strap, but when he did it, since the pilot was still ordering the heli to move (or maybe he increased thrust, thinking that's why he wasn't moving) the sudden release of the strap "catapulted" the helicopter. the pilot was quick to react, but still i guess it's partially his fault...
