I think danii hit the nail in the head with this (can't say if this includes australians though). Try is an attempt to do something with the outlook of getting it accomplished relatively easy and quit if it does not materialize with the expected ease. Do does not care at the number of attempts to get it done, it does not imply instant execution, it can be either of at the first try or at the billionth. For the resolved mind there is no difference. Yoda surely knows his shit.

TaichouInkei, you could not have said it more succinctly. To do, is to resolve, persevere and get done. To try, is to assume a typically Australian stance, which is generally characterised by nothing more than a feeble attempt, predictably followed by grandiose, heroic claims...LMAO

Doesn't doing or not being able to do something start with trying?? Doesn't being able to do something sometimes take trying and trying over and over again? This quote kinds sucks lol!!

Well the point of it is that some people are satisfied with just trying so no one can say they didn't at least do that.. and people who aim to try are accepting the possibility of failure, as precipitated by obstacles.

You'd be surprised, however, what you can get done when you resolve to do something, rather than just give it a college try.

He is saying that the end result is either you do it, or you don't do it. "Trying" by itself does not exist.
