  • @nmtoc - What city was this that you rode the Flyer's from 1976?

  • It sounds like there's a GM diesel engine in this bus.

Where I live, the Flyer diesel buses built from 1976 on back had a different make of engine. It was a two stroke diesel but much deeper sounding and noisier than a GM engine. Cummins, maybe?

  • This is a nice video. I remember these flyer buses in Boston as a kid and they stopped using them in the late 1990s, 1996-1997. I enjoyed this. Thanks for posting!

  • 2-stroke diesel of about 300 horsepower... very unique sounding engines. They sound different because they fire at every revolution instead of every other revolution as with a four-stroke engine.

  • Flyers used V-drive transmissions beginning with the D800B models. AM Generals couldn't use T drive because they were USA-only models.

  • As a kid I always wondered what made those busses sound different. From what I've read since then, those Spicer transmissions were used in old T-drive busses like Flxibles in the early-60's and Flyers in the late-60's/early-70's. The V-drive busses like Flyers from late-70's onwards and all the GM Fishbowls are the ones that used those Allison transmissions.

  • Gpizzle I think i saw you hanging out with your friends at Macdonalds in Metrotown i think it was you cuz it likes like you in the exact same look in the video

  • i never heard of spicer transmissions i thought detroit diesel engines had allison transmissions

  • I want the Flyer E800 TROLLIES BACK

  • Lol i miss the flyer E800's i wish they came back but i am pleased TRAMS have some of the flyer buses please do make a video of the 1981 flyer d901a which is from trams to
