A Tribute to Diana Millay (aka Laura Collins on Dark Shadows)

This is the latest video in my series of Dark Shadows actor & and actress tributes. This time it is the lovely and talented actress, Diana Millay, who portrayed Laura Collins..(David's mother and Phoenix : ) on the gothic soap opera. I've used most of these photos in my other DS videos..but decided to group them here in as tribute to this amazing actress. I hope you enjoy this...please rate and comment if you do! Yes but in the storylines there are always suggestions that she may have been immortal for thousands of years since the time of ancient Egypt. And is never known if the phoenix that returns each time is actually the same Laura Collins as before, or if its just the Phoenix or "creature of fire" in the form of Laura, thats never been made clear.

Hi, The legend of the Phoenix is not really associated with being a human at all. Mainly it is a fire spirit made manifest in the form of a bird. The writers just took this and spun it into the Dark Shadows mythic fabric. But the way I see it, this Phoenix was the same "Laura" which continued to show up through out Collinwood's history...as it continued to take the same "form" each time. But who knows, this is the same writing team that left Adam waiting in a closet for all eternity. LOL :)

Laura Collins was one of if the most favorite character on DS. She was pregnant when she first was introduced into the storyline, and she was portraying a phoenix who needed to take David her son with her into flames so she could rise from the ashes and start a life anew, she was stoped by Vicki Winters, The mystery of laura came in the 1897 storyline when its revealed she existed as a pheonix names laura Collins threwout many era's, was she always a phoenix or did that happen in 1897?

Hi Obsidianaify..I always took it to mean that she was always a Pheonix. She was married to three members of the Collins family through their history. Jeremiah Collins (1700s), Edward Collins (late 1800s), and Roger Collins (1960s). At least I think she was supposed to be portraying the same "Laura" each time...just in different eras. @BaronVonBlixberg How are you Baron? YT continues its never ending crusade to keep DS episodes off the net. The mysterious "Thayer David" has closed his account. I don't know how much if at all I am looking forward to the Johnny Depp move-the story of the arrival of Barnabas Collins to Collinwood has been done to "undeath" in the original series, the 1991 revival, and the House of DS. However the new movie turns out, I hope its set the stage for a sequel with Quentin and Laura Collins.

Baron: why do you think DS never brought the Phoenix or Count Petofi back--I understand the Phoenix needs to reappear once in a century--I guess the series ran out of time itself to find the right storyline for her. However, Count Petofi definitely needed to be see again, maybe even in the second worst storyline of the series, the Leviathan people.

By the way, not for nothing, but it took Angelique, Barnabas, Quentin and Magda to defeat the Phoenix in 1897.

Many of the "tricks" Angelique used later were originated with Laura; I understand, although DS is the only "soap opera" I have ever watched, it is a common occurance for fans to blast writers and producers on how their favorite character is treated; the 1897 storyline gives us more info on the nature of the Phoenix but her run is very short and a bit crappy.

@Obsidianaify The Phoenix is most mysterious! I don't know why she is not more well known to DS fans--I am supposing it is because Angelique became the chief villeiness in the show until its conclusion.

Baron this is the most perfect of all your tributes and as I have said; the Phoenix and Court Petofi were the greatest characters ever on the show; and both similar in that they were not recycled types like witches, ghosts, etc.
