Short-Haired pointers are some of the most loyal and awesome dogs you can have.

Yep, sure looks like Chico is helping you navigate. Enjoy each day with him. Ours passed away July 12, 2010 at 18-20 years old. We had him for 15 years (vet says he was at least 4-5 when we got him). 15 short years. The time flys by so fast. Ours lived so long because we exercised him a lot, fed him premium food, regular check ups & gave him a lot of love. If you live in a cold climate, they also need a coat in the winter and a nice warm bed (Odie liked the couch).

@yasumi131 I know exactly what you mean, my friend! :(

Mine passed away two years ago, at the age of 16, far too early. The first months were so hard without him being around all the time... he´s gonna stay in our hearts forever!

@ofcelticblood Yes, we have too much to learn from dogs and other animals. Just because they can't speak as we do it doesn't mean they are lesser creatures. Their loyalty has no end, even if we don't deserve it and their love is profound & sincere.
One of my other dogs -Lucky- was cruelly mistreated by her previous owner, but even after enduring so much, she ran for 8 kms after her owner's car after she was abandoned on a beach.
Take care of yourself, as this world need more like you.

@Harrisonthebrave - We are rescuing another Pointer that was a puppy mill breeder for 5-6 years and than taken to be euthanized. We are getting her from Pointer Rescue.
SNR - Spay, neuter and adopt. At least your previous companion will not have died in vain, through his or her death, you now have the capability of rescuing another "throw away". My sympathy for your loss. In six days, our Odie will have been gone for seven months. I have Odie's boxed ashes in my bottom drawer.

@Nannaroo17 - You are right, never had a dog stab me in the back while smiling to my face and all my dogs knew my deepest secrets - and even if they could talk, I firmly believe they would never have betrayed me.
A dog will love you whether you are rich, poor, fat, thin, pretty or ugly - they even love people who have treated them cruely. They are noble creatures. All dogs bar none go to "heaven" - can't say that about all people.

What a handsome fellow! I have a GSP "Cutter"...... he does everything short of grabbing my keys for me when it is time to hit the road. I have two GSP's.... and love them dearly. They are highly intelligent, very loving and a definite joy in my life. Cutter is 4 years old and "Dinkie" is about 6 1/2. I am fostering her for a GSP rescue, but since she has been with me for almost 2 years, I have to say she is probably with her 'forever" home. Hoping for 10-15 years together.
That's a classic GSP way to ride in the car! He probably puts his head on your shoulder as you drive. When they say a dog is man's best friend they are talking about the GSP no doubt.
