You will find many examples around you how to build your presentation : TV documentaries, Theater play, Newspapers, Ads. All media by definition intend to communicate as much as a presentation.
Steve Jobs is known for the excellent presentation that he delivers. For sure he does rehearse many times before delivering. Barack Obama develops charisma. Bill Clinton is one of the first speaker paid hundreds of thousands of dollars just for speaking. Shorter speech or presentation are the most difficult to prepare. Why ? simply because you cannot make any mistake. Every ideas or messages must be understood right away. A one day seminar gives you a chance to come back to some ideas, a 30 minute presentation does not.
What is an excellent presentation ? a presentation that participants understand, remember and enjoy with fun at some time.
If you speak at a conference, you may also watch the speakers delivering before you. That will give you opportunities to link to what happened before, showing that you are attending and not just coming to give a speech. Again the audience should feel that you are alike. It is not you and them. Bill Clinton is known for his human approach in his speeches, which certainly makes him today one of the greatest speakers.
