North east Ohioans in their 40s and older may remember the Classic Higbee's Department Store commercials on TV. These 30 second spots used to freak me out because of their psychedelic images, but the snappy Flower Power tune in the background just stuck in my head. Now THAT's effective advertising!

To undo some of the psychological damge, I've slowed down the video to about 1/3 of the original speed, to reveal the subliminal pictures at a more humanly consumable speed. Now you can see for the first time what those images actually were. When they flashed by like a shuffling deck of cards, only a spooky suggestion actually arrived at the human brain as a decoded message. Thanks to modern technology, many can save serious money in unnecessary therapy sessions! (Just kidding!).

Cleveland LIVES! I don't care what they say, I LOVE this town and I'm happy to live and die here. There's no place like home!

  • It brings back childhood memories ... and I'm 47 year old Clevelander. Now, we just Superhost, The Ghoul, Captain Penny, and Dorothy Fuldheim ...

  • @jgerard56 Ditto! The psychedelic commercials, though, were rather spooky. I was a little scared when these subliminal pictures flashed across the gariny black & white tv screen. The whistling and the tune added to the weird-factor.

I thought it would be a great gimmick, to slow down the "action", so after all these years, we could actully SEE what many might have been missing in the old commercials.

  • I remember this little song (or jingle) from my childhood- I was born in Elyria in 1971, and came to Virginia in 1976... Only five years, but I still remember it!
