Laid is a genius record.

If you listen to most of the music James produces, they are usually being cynical of religion, politics, fame, fortune (listen to Government Walls, God only knows, shes a star, etc). If you think of the lyrics in the mainstream, you are missing the point of the song.
If you looking for tears.. then just listen to lullaby and let your mind wonder to all the poor kids who have been abused.

@glory2glory76 Maybe it was about both and the similarities in the situations. Lots of "puns" intended. Nevertheless, I dont thin the 3 would be the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but Jesus and the two other thieves crucified. In any case, amazing song which works for both cases. Maybe Terry White is Jesus! hehe

@ThePaultipple Hiya. Ur right in some respects, it is a spiritual song, and Tim booth is/was a very spiritual person given what he went through, and he openly talks about this and you can tell from a lot of the early songs. It is about Terry Waite being taken hostage tho. There was a big article about James in the NME years ago I think, or i saw a long interview with Tim Booth and he spoke about the song and what it meant and why he wrote it. I was amazed as well but it is true

@ThePaultipple As much as I respect your opinion about the song, it is about Jesus. "I guess your not to blame for what they've done to me, in Your name" " Send forth your lamb to the slaughter" "It's a shame you got so famous for a sacrifice" "I need proof before belief" All the connections are spiritual. One of the 3....Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Wondering where this quote from Tim Booth is about it....cuz if I'm wrong, the parrallels are amazing.

@montage12333 I am with you...this album got me through that same period...1994-95 through some great tragedies of my life.

@pdiamant2009 Its about Terry Waite being taken hostage in the Lebanon. 1 of the 3 hostages. U knew they'd come for u so it was suicide - he got in the truck with Hezbolah. I need proof before belief - TW said this. He needed proof the others were alive. Its a shame u got so famous for a sacrifice - being taken hostage. Beautiful song. Amazing lyrics. Tim Booth said this song just showed the stupidity of what TW did... but i guess ur not to blame for what they done in your name.

I realy think this is one of the best bands of the 90's, this album got me through the hardest time of my life when in 1995 i had a serious car accident which killed three of my best friends. a month in hospital with the headphones every night listening to this album kept me sane, comforted and every time i hear any track helps me to never forget how fortunate i am and to never forget my friends. thanks "james" you'll never know what this album means to me :-)
