I interviewed Waylon on the air. We talked about this song and other things like the death of Buddy Holley. I had to go to commercial when Waylon started crying. He wasn't such a tough guy. He was a good Guy. We ended up going to Grady's for BBQ after the show. A few years earlier, I was at Buddy's grave laying flowers and Waylon was there with me. He was a nice guy. The outlaw thing was a facade. He was as mean and nasty as a new born Puppy.

I've never realy searched to see what this song was about.. but I grew up listening to it.. and I always thought the "wolf" in this song was a bit more about the Rape of Europeans and Americans (yes I'm one) to the Native American lands and culture.. just means more to me like that for some reason..
